Energy Storage and Savings

Safely storing large volumes of energy, managing consumption and maximising energy savings while maintaining the current standard of living is a challenge for every city. Czech nanotechnology companies have several ready-to-use solutions.

NANOPTIQS

Micro- and nanostructured optics for conventional luminaires and sensors

Micro- and nanostructured optics enable the manufacture of luminaires and sensors that can better direct the light from a source. This significantly increases efficiency and reduces electricity costs. NANOPTIQS can give luminaires functions unattainable with conventional optics.

HE3DA

Lithium-ion batteries with thick electrodes made of a nanomaterial with a specific structure

HE3DA® technology does not use conventional electrodes applied in a thin layer a few micrometres thick onto foils, but considerably taller electrodes several millimetres thick. The ability to cool the cell’s interior with electrolyte and to regenerate it increases the cell’s service life and reduces the size of the battery modules.

The battery system’s capacity exceeds 500 Wh/litre. A kilowatt-hour module delivers fifteen times higher peak power than commonly used technologies. The battery’s efficiency is over 95% and its service life exceeds 5,000 cycles.

Nanotechnology for Smart Cities

The Nanotechnology for Smart Cities as a Tool for Sustainable Development project was created with support under the Czech Republic’s foreign development cooperation programme.
