HE3DA lithium battery storage celebrates fifth anniversary in the Nevada desert

Five years ago, HE3DA signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the University of Nevada LV and supplied a battery storage system for important genetic research into microorganisms that live in boiling water (thermophiles). Beyond supporting UNLV’s research, HE3DA was pursuing a similar goal – to verify its batteries’ ability to operate in extreme conditions.

The HE3DA project was reported on by KTVN2 News in 2018 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H0hcjP7s6o The HE3DA® 20KWh energy storage system replaced the original lead-acid batteries with a total capacity of almost 40KWh, and on 5 October 2023 it celebrated the fifth anniversary of its fault-free operation. In the truly extreme conditions of the Nevada desert, where temperatures vary by as much as 30°C between day and night, where winter can bring as low as -20°C while 40°C is no exception in summer, and with a high concentration of alkaline salts and super-fine dust in the air, the storage system performed superbly. According to ranch owner David Jamieson, in these conditions and over this period he would have had to consider replacing and buying his third set of lead-acid batteries. Unlike lead-acid, HE3DA® lithium batteries are maintenance-free and environmentally friendly, and their full capacity can be used. In practical terms, compared with lead-acid you gain half the weight, full use of the capacity (instead of half) and at least four times the service life under the same conditions. Put simply, the HE3DA® lithium battery is 16 times more advantageous than lead-acid. Operation monitoring: https://gerlach.adbitech.com/

The celebration was attended by many notable figures, including the British racing team THRUST, holder of two as-yet-unbroken land speed records, with Dr Glynne Bowsher, chief engineer of Thrust2 and Thrust SSC. In 2018, the battery market as we know it today did not yet exist. The installation of the HE3DA®

battery storage in these extreme conditions was an experiment that confirmed and exceeded our expert estimates regarding the robustness of the batteries and their service life. An important finding was that the HE3DA® battery is an excellent replacement for lead-acid accumulators and can easily be connected to any systems that currently use lead-acid batteries.
