From wound dressings to batteries: Czech company nanoSPACE Technology secures European patent

The Czech company nanoSPACE Technology, a member of the Czech Nanotechnology Industries Association (ANP ČR), has been granted a European patent for an innovative method of producing nanofibres. The technology opens up new possibilities in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, filtration and energy.

Combining different materials and their strengths in a single, exceptionally fine structure. That is exactly what the hybrid spinning technology of nanoSPACE Technologymakes possible, and the company has been granted European patent EP4547898. Notice of its grant was published on 30 September 2026.

The main advantage is that nanofibre membranes made from several different materials can be produced in a single manufacturing step. The technology can also handle materials that require different solvents and therefore cannot simply be processed together from a single solution. This gives developers greater freedom: they can combine the properties of individual materials and tailor the resulting membrane to a specific application.

The range of possibilities is considerable. In pharmaceuticals and food supplements, nanofibres can serve as carriers of active substances, for example in thin strips placed under the tongue. In biomedicine, the company is developing wound dressing materials with partners. Membranes are also used in filtration and in separating substances from air or liquids. In energy, the company is involved in developing membranes for lithium-ion batteries as part of the European INERRANT project. These areas are presented in its overview of membrane applications.

The technology also offers revolutionary possibilities for waterless cosmetics. Active care ingredients can be stored in dry nanofibres and released only when moistened during use. A cosmetic product can thus take the form of a light dry patch or a face mask. The ability to combine different materials broadens the scope for new compositions and properties of these products. More about the principle of dry nanofibre cosmetics.

Customers are already familiar with concrete results. The company nanoSPACE s.r.o. uses the technology in the nanofibre patches of the nanoSPACE Cosmetics brand for targeted skin care. It is also used by the company nanoBeauty in its nanofibre face masks, made by Nanopharma. These are examples of how Czech nanofibre development is reflected in widely available products.
