Can buildings clean the air in a city? Yes, the façades of buildings are becoming enormous air purifiers. This is not science fiction, but progress in science. By simply applying photocatalytic coatings, the problem of polluted cities can be solved immediately. With the help of daylight, the surface of the façade is activated, which then breaks down smog, traffic emissions or, for example, ground-level ozone.
The Milano Smart event organised by 2G NanoTech together with the Associazione italiana commercio chimico (AssICC) demonstrated how new technologies can be used to improve the environment. FN NANO, in cooperation with the Italian company Indam, demonstrated air purification under real-world conditions. Measurements were taken on a model of the centre of Milan with façades treated with the innovative FN NANO® technology. The instruments of both organisations typically showed a 60% reduction in the concentration of harmful substances in the air.

The event was held at Palazzo Castiglioni, the seat of Confcommercio Milano (the Chamber of Commerce). Among the speakers were Marco Coldani – President of AssICC, David Almazan Cruzado – President of the Spanish and Portuguese Photocatalysis Association(AIF), and Jan Procházka – President of the Czech Society for Applied Photocatalysis and inventor of the FN NANO® technology. The event was also supported by the Consulate of the Czech Republic, including a lecture on Czech nanotechnologies by Consul General Jiří Kuděla.
Anyone can “pick up a brush” and start cleaning the air. We have already begun. No talk – just help.
